When you enter Griffiss Park in Rome from the Route 49 exit, you drive on a four-lane road four about a mile.  Once you pass the roundabout, the road narrows to a tight two lanes.  That is going to change.

Construction will begin soon to expand the four lane highway (Route 825) to the intersection of Perimeter Road near the Mohawk Glen medical offices.  The state DOT told the Rome Sentinel that drivers might be using the new road by next fall.

The biggest changes will include two more roundabouts.  One replaces the traffic light at the intersection of 825 and Floyd Ave and Brooks Road.  The other will be at the intersection of 825 with Hangar Road.

Other improvements include adding a sidewalk and walking/biking trail, and new landscaping in the area.   The budget for this project is $8.85 million.
