I'm sad to say that unlike last year where Verizon allowed me to get a new iPhone when it was released even though my contract wasn't quite up yet, this year mine's up on October 8th and I can't get it yet!!

For the rest of you today is the day that your new iPhone is in your hand and it's killing me! I guess I can wait another two weeks, sigh. But for those of us that can't upgrade yet, we can still download the new iOS6 which has some pretty cool features to tide us over till we're eligible for upgrade. I did and here are some of the new features that caught my eye that you don't actually need the iPhone 5 for:

The new native Maps app has enhanced-visibility turn-by-turn directions and I used the app to get me to our latest Wing Fling Winner!

You can put your phone in a 'do-not-disturb' mode which prevents your phone from going off with alerts or calls while you sleep or when you could use a break from the outside world for awhile.

So, if you're like me and have to wait, just update your software to iOS6 as it's been available since Wednesday. To download iOS6, go to the settings app, select software update and click on your new update. Don't forget to plug in your iPhone to a charger while it downloads and try not to use it as it takes about 90 minutes normally but will take hours if you can't put your phone down. As for the new phone, two weeks and counting, okay... Take a deep breath Keith, you can do it! Meanwhile hopefully I won't run into a wall (or you) while my nose is in my phone playing with this new stuff!
