Glen Campbell Fights Alzheimers With Optimism

Glen Campbell is not taking his battle with Alzheimers disease lying down. He recently began preparing for an overseas tour later this summer and fall and told the Associated Press,
“I’m really not worried about anything,” Campbell said. “You know those people who say, ‘Oh, geez, I wonder what’s going to happen tomorrow?’ Tomorrow’s cool. Just don’t mess it up. It’s just wonderful. I think where I am at right now in this universe, I wouldn’t want to be anything else than what I am.”

According to the article Glen does experience the expected lapses of memory but takes it in stride. His wife Kim says
“We call it part-timers,” Kim said. “You just never know. Some days are great, and some days he maybe repeats himself a little. On stage a couple of times he might forget what key a song is in, which 20 years ago might never happen.”
Glen has also recorded a new studio album, “Ghost on the Canvas” which will be released next week. There is, of course, no cure for Alzheimers. It is a relentless, progressive disease that robs and individual of their personality and their independence. We salute Glen as he battles this disease with humor, humility and grace.
