Spring has sprung and grazing season has begun.  There's a whole lot more than just turning the cows out and letting them eat.  The Adirondack Grazers Cooperative has some tips on getting the most out of pasture.
The ADK Grazers are a sales and marketing group of beef producers from small to mid-scale family farms in New York and Vermont.  They will be presenting three experts on the subject of "Planning Your Grazing Season."  The talk will be held at The Ortensi Farm, in Richfield SpringsFriday, May 15 from 6 to 8 p.m.
The program is presented by Margaret Fusco, Natural Resource Conservationist, Herkimer County; Bob Weaver, Agricultural Environmental Mgmt. Coordinator, Water and Soil District, Otsego County; Karen Hoffman, Nature Resource Conservation Services-Department of Animal Science, Chenango County.  They'll cover rotation planning, grass management, better grass and soil management, paddock size, cattle rotation, herd health, and optimizing the land for better gains.
This talk is a free and open event, but reservations are encouraged.  For more information, please contact Berni Ortensi, (413) 348-9024. Please RSVP with Elizabeth Collins or Seth Guistimbelli at ADK Grazers, (518) 409-5599 or (518) 695-3162.
