07:48pm Police surround a building in the Franklin Street area.  The situation is being described as extremely volatile.  The suspect is believed to be inside a boat.  Officials think he may still be wearing a suicide vest and are proceeding carefully.

07:29pm A CNN reporter on the scene is reporting that children are being carried out of a Franklin Street building.  They are being taken to an ambulance waiting in a nearby parking lot.

7:19pm Residents in the Franklin Street area are being told to remain inside because of  a “heavy police presence” in the area.

7:10pm Police have rushed into the Franklin Street, Watertown area.  The lockdown has been reinstituted.  The are reports that shots have been fired.

06:50pm Governor Patrick says residents must “remain vigilant” as a dangerous man is still at large.

6:16pm Mass transit is now operational.  Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick is lifting the “stay at home” order.  Officials, however, say that they are no closer to capturing “Suspect #2,” Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, at this hour than they were earlier in the day.

Mayor Tom Menino says the community will “get through this crisis” together.

In a story on CNN’s website, the suspects’ father, Anzor Tsarnayev, is quoted as telling a Russian news agency that his sons were framed.  ”I don’t know who exactly did it. But someone did. And being cowards, they shot the boy dead. There are cops like this.”

12:55pm Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick is asking residents to remain safe and stay inside their homes as police continue searching for Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.  Police Chief Ed Deveau is thanking citizens for their “exceptional patience and cooperation.”

12:46pm Boston Police say sixty percent of their search is complete.  They are asking the public to remain patient while they continue their investigation.  The area lockdown remains in effect for Watertown, Massachusetts.

11:42am There are no updates on the law enforcement from but more information on the bombing suspects is emerging. The Boston Globe is saying it appeared that the “(b)ombing suspects were local, ‘normal’ US immigrants.”  According to a story written by Mark Arsenault, Patricia Wen, and David Filipov in the Globe, the two brothers came to the United States five years ago from southern Russia, near Chechnya “…and assimilated through school and sports into the Greater Boston community and culture.” 26-Year old Tamerlan Tsarnaev is dead. 11:35amReports that police are “swarming” Watertown continue; guns are drawn.

11:01am University of Massachusetts Dartmouthis on lockdown after officials confirmed that the suspect was a student at the college. A “controlled evacuation” of the college has been underway since 10:28am.

10:50am Boston Police are reporting that the car has been found unoccupied.  Taxi service in the city has been restored.  Law enforcement authorities are examining the car for evidence:

10:35am Boston Police are now looking for a car with this license plate.  It is a four-door 1999 Honda CRV, possibly gray.  Authorities are asking anyone who has seen the car to immediately call them. The Boston Globeis reporting that residents of Watertown, Massachusetts should remain inside their homes.  Police are looking for the suspect in the area:

Boston Police are saying a suspicious device was detonated safely near Comm Avenue and Charlesgate. An updated posting on the department’s Facebook page warned residents that the community-wide lockdown remains in effect and warned residents to open their doors only to uniformed officers only.

I hope they’ve rehearsed enough because tonight is the night celebrities will strap on their dancing shoes for the premier of Dancing with the Stars on ABC.  It looks like Kellie Pickler and Wynonna found time to horse around during rehearsals.  Both will join 10 other celebrities tonight at 8, to show off their stuff.

After reading Matt Herkimer’s story about construction starting on the new Olive Garden in New Hartford, I got as excited as his wife.  I decided to stop by the site on Commercial Drive to take pictures and see if I could get information on when it’ll be open.

Workers were digging trenches when I arrived, waiting to pour the footing.  The foreman Mike asked if I was there to delivery the concrete.  Do I look like someone who would be delivering concrete?

If the concrete arrives and Mother Nature cooperates, the Italian restaurant chain is expected to be open in about four months.  We’ll be eating unlimited salad and bread sticks by mid July.  But my question is, where will we park?  The site didn’t look big enough for an Olive Garden AND a parking lot big enough to accommodate everyone.

Our Wild West FrogFest & Rodeo special guest James Wesley came to Central New York a little early.  He was the first Nashville act to open Toby Keith‘s I Love This Bar & Grill at Destiny USA in Syracuse.

Tadpole & I decided to check out the bar for the first time and see our FrogFest guest.  And a big thank you to our friend Rich for taking such good care of us.  First, the bar & restaurant is HUGE!  We didn’t eat any food but was tempted by a number of items on the menu, including the fried pickle spears and Toby’s Platter.

Second, Wesley put on a GREAT show and has both Tadpole & I looking forward to seeing him at FrogFest June 15th at the Herkimer County Fairgrounds.  He is so much hotter in person ladies!  And his smile lights up a room.

The Weather Channel says three March storms carry historical significance.

hile details may be sketchy from 125 years ago, reports indicate the ‘Nor’Easter dumped more than 40 inches of snow in New York and New Jersey and 50 inches in Connecticut and Massachusettes.  Check out these photo’s from New York City.

Ash Wednesday 1962

It’s called the Greatest Nor’Easter of the 20th Century.  The storm raged for 3 days with winds up to 75 m.p.h and dumped more than 40 inches of snow in Virginia.

“The March ’62 storm was one of the most extreme weather systems of its type, and one of the most extraordinary meteorological events of any kind, in recorded history,” notes Stu Ostro, The Weather Channel’s Senior Director of Weather Communications.

 

Superstorm 1993

March 12 will mark the 20th anniversary of “The Storm of the Century.”  It pounded the south with hurricane like winds and even near white out conditions in Atlanta, Ga.  Even Central New York picked up 35 inches of the snow.  Matt Herkimer has details on the local impact here.  Check out how big the storms was with vintage coverage from the Weather Channel in this video.

While we all yearn for spring, we know this may be the most unpredicatable weather of the year for the next couple of months. There’ll be spring-like days and then more winter weather. According to the Farmer’s Almanac forecast, we should see some rain and snow but tempoeratures should be about 5 degrees warmer than normal.

This was the coldest Heart Run and Walk I remember in some time, at times it was difficult to feel your toes or your fingers.  At least that’s the excuse I’m going with for the occassional glove appearing in the pictures.

Thanks to our station engineer, Tim for sharing these photo’s.  If Grit and Grace look familiar, that’s Dave Brown, Fulton Chain Gang guitarst, on the left, Jackie Popp, Bob Lett on bass and behind the drum kit is Mike Oliver.  If you haven’t seen these guys they’re at the Toby’s tonight (3/1/13) at 9:30.  And yes, that’s the subwoofers built into the stage.

For our vacation, we decided to drive south until it was warm enough to play golf.  Despite the rain and cool temperatures, the Florida sign is definitely a welcome site. We had two separate Florida vacations. We spent part of it in Daytona Beach, until the Daytona 500 crowd came to town. The other part was spent in St Augustine.

St Augustine

Our stay in St Augustine Florida was quite a different one than Daytona Beach. Not only does St Augustine have an outlet mall, where Tadpole bought a new wardrobe, it has great architecture and history as the oldest city in the United States. You can take trolly rides or just walk the streets and browse the shops, museums, churches and old buildings.  It was a nice, laid back atmosphere. Which was perfect after the few days we enjoyed Daytona Beach.

Daytona Beach

From the quiet and quaint to the loud and rowdy. Daytona Beach was the opposite of St Augustine  We didn’t spend much time on the beach since it was so cool.  We could see it from the balcony of our hotel and that was enough.  We did drive on the beach one day while others braved the cool temperatures.  Our main objective in Daytona Beach was golfing during the day and enjoying good food and entertainment at night.

Bubba Gumps

Bubba Gumps in Daytona Beach was my favorite place to eat.  We tried getting in at the New York City location, but it was a 3 hour wait.  It was so good, we went twice.  Not only do they serve the best margaritas, they have unbelievable food.  Several items from the movie are also on display throughout the restaurant.

Joe’s Crab Shack

Joe’s Crab Shack was right on the beach.  There was so much food I could barely eat it all.  It was so messy they even gave me a bib.  Although the food was good and the location was excellent, we still preferred Bubba Gumps over Joe’s Crab Shack.

Froggy’s Saloon

Anyplace with Froggy in it’s name is a must stop.  Although it turned out to be a biker bar, it also turned into a good time.  At Froggy’s Saloon they have a tradition.  If you give the bartender a dollar bill, she’ll throw it into the ceiling and all the money goes to charity.  I even got in on the action.  Check it out.

The East coast wasn’t as lucky. The storm has dumped up to 34 inches of snow in Connecticut and up to two feet in parts of Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Hampshire and Maine. A cold late January night was plenty warm inside the historic Saranac Brewery in Utica as we celebrated the first “Saranac Thursday” of the new year, Townsquare Media’s Red Hot Singles Mingle.

Now you didn’t really have to be single to enjoy this night out.  All that was required was the  willingness to enjoy some great Saranac products, jammin’ music and two floors of the Saranac Brewery open to you and all the party you could handle.

Of course if you were single, we hope you enjoyed the speed dating, dancing or a quiet moment of conversation.

The only thing worse than a broken bone is the wait in the emergency room. And we waited in the hall.  Hall 05 to be exact.  At least she was given a bed to lie in rather then sitting in a chair.

I would like to thank her nurse Lindsey, who was very good with her. Giving her ice to take down the swelling, medication for the pain and helping with the splint, which looked like just a piece of rubber.  The glass ortho splint hardened after being placed on her ankle.  It was the strangest thing I’d seen.  My daughter was even a little surprised when her ankle started to get warm.

Today is hopefully cast day.  At least she doesn’t have school with the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.  She could have chosen a better time of year to break her ankle though.  Crutches in the snow is another recipe for disaster.  I mean with her coordination and all.  Maybe she can get her boyfriend to carry her everywhere, like he did last night.

There’s been lots of tall tales concerning the whereabouts of Hoffa’s body, including old Giant’s Stadium and last September, police even took soil samples from beneath a driveway in Detroit in vain.  Zerilli was in prison at the time of Hoffa’s disappearnce on July 30, 1975, otherwise he says there wouldn’t have been a disappearance.

Zerilli claims Hoffa’s body is buried in a shallow grave less than 20 miles from the Detroit restaurant where he was last seen.  Those that scoff at the statements, say Zerilli, who is now 85 years old, is hard up for money and writing a book about his life and looking for publicity.

It seems this story raises it’s head every few years.  In 2006 the owner of a Michigan horse farm claimed Hoffa’s body was buried there.  While the FBI never turned up any evidience, the town of Milford, Michigan (as the pictures below show) had some fun with the week long search making special cupcakes and specialized signs at area businesses.
