In an effort to assist small and medium sized producers along with new farm start-ups, the Farm Service Agency is offering smaller loans with less down payment for storage facilities and handling equipment.

The Farm Storage Facility Loan program provides low-interest financing to producers to build or upgrade storage facilities, including new options to help farmers purchase portable storage and handling equipment. They've also expanded the list of commodities that are eligible for the loans.

  • Fruits & Vegetables
  • Grains
  • Hay & Forage
  • Meat, Poultry & Eggs
  • Milk, Cheese, Butter & Yogurt
  • Honey
  • Hops
  • Maple Sap
  • Renewable Biomass
  • Aquaculture
  • Floriculture

The new “microloan” option allows you to borrow $50,000 or less with just a 5% down payment.  The new option allows producers to purchase washing and handling equipment or refrigeration units and trucks that can store commodities before delivering them to markets.
