Josh Thompson is 'Comin' Around' to Wild West FrogFest & Rodeo June 9th at the Herkimer County Fairgrounds. The lyrics to his new single, ‘Comin’ Around,’ are words that will be sure to resonate with listeners of all ages as they reflect back on the path that led them to where they are now. The tune is the first release from Thompson’s highly-anticipated sophomore album due out some time this summer on RCA Records.

“Josh and I wrote this song with our buddy, Kendall Marvell,” hit songwriter Rodney Clawson tells Taste of Country. “Kendall had the idea. He had the little guitar/banjo lick. He came in with that and he came in with the idea of ‘Comin’ Around.’ We were talking about how we all grew up in small towns where you have these big dreams of where you’re going to go and what you’re going to do.”

It was like nails on a chalkboard when Daddy played his kind of music / If you’d asked me then I’d say it was borderline abusive / But I’m getting to where I don’t mind it now / I’m comin’ around / I blew out of here the next day after graduation / Destination anywhere with a higher population / Never to return to this tiny town / But I’m comin’ around,” they wrote in the opening lyrics.

“I grew up listening to a lot of rock stuff,” Clawson reveals. “I didn’t understand adults who sat around and listened to old country songs. Now, for some reason, at my age, it’s very reassuring and kind of peaceful to sit and listen to old country songs.”

“I don’t know what it is, if it’s nostalgic or whatever, but we talked about that and [about] writing a song where the story would be about how I didn’t understand all this stuff and I didn’t like all this stuff, but now I’m starting to get it,” Clawson continues. “I’m comin’ around to that way of thinking, [and] I’m comin’ back around to my old town I thought I was too big for.”

I’m comin’ around, I’m figuring out a lot of things I thought I knew / I never dreamed I’d be seeing things from this point of view / I’m still a little ways from slowing it all the way down / But I’m comin’ around,” Thompson sings in the lyrics of the chorus.

“For me, the point of this song is to be able to look back and see how you’ve grown and where you’re going,” says Thompson. “It’s part of finding that line where you go, ‘OK, it’s time to get my life together.’ I’ve definitely had moments like that in my life and think my fans will be able to relate to that.”

We can relate together when Josh takes the stage at FrogFest at the Herkimer County Fairgrounds Saturday June 9th.
