Fishing without a license won't be illegal this coming weekend. The Department of Environmental Conservation holds the second of three free fishing weekends June 24 and 25.

Seems like perfect timing to have free fishing this weekend. School is out and Bass Season just began. Anyone can bait a hook in any New York fresh and marine waters without license or marine registry. All other fishing regulations are still in force when it comes to size limits and creel limits.

The DEC hopes to encourage people to try fishing for the first time, or bring back someone who hasn't fished in a long time. You can help by taking someone, especially children, fishing for the first time or inviting someone from outside the state to come try NY waters. More information on Free Fishing Weekends and the I FISH NY program are at the DEC's website.
