Florida In July-No Day At the Beach

When my wife and I purchased a winter getaway home in Cape Coral last month we knew we would have to go down and set up shop. We also heard that July in Florida was, to put it mildly, hot enough to melt steel. This past week we experienced that first hand. The heat and the humidity had us in the car heading to Fort Myers Beach ASAP. Did we find blessed relief?
Take a look at the picture. See all of those beach umbrellas? Without them we would have shriveled up and dissolved within 20 minutes. There is no way anyone can actually lie in the Florida sun in July for any length of time without experiencing 2nd degree burns. How about taking a “refreshing” dip in the Gulf. Refreshing? It’s like bath water. warm bath water. We are very much looking forward to heading down during the depths of winter for some warmth and sunshine but until then, until Mother Nature turns off the heat I’ll just quote Tony Soprano and say “Fuggetaboutit”.
