Fall Vacation Ideas – Here And There
Maybe you’ve got a little vacation time left and looking to take a fall getaway. I usually like to hold some vacation days for Christmas time, and maybe you do as well, but what about now? Here are some fall vacation ideas you might want to consider.
Fortunately, we have a number of great fall vacation ideas right in our own backyard. With the vibrant colors of our fall foliage, some of the “snowbirds” in Florida fly up north to take in the breathtaking views in the Adirondacks, and you can get there by car!
For day-trippers, there are a number of apple farms and ciders mills, and with several area colleges, a local college football weekend can be fun.

History buffs will love the Arabia Steamboat Museum. Music lovers will love the blues and jazz clubs in and around Kansas City, where Count Basie and Charlie Parker got their starts.
Nestled on the banks of the Ohio River, this Southern city offers small-town charm, a cosmopolitan riverfront district, a diverse art scene, and Restaurant Row. Sports fanatics will love the Louisville Slugger Museum.
New York, NY
Take a Fall stroll in Greenwich Village or take a carriage ride Central Park. Check out the Empire State and Chrysler Buildings for beautiful Fall views. Or, hurry down to the Statue of Liberty, Rockefeller Center, Times Square and the Bronx Zoo. Or, maybe you just want to check out a Broadway Show?
And, plan to visit the 911 Memorial site, for a moving experience.
Niagara Falls, New York
Check out the bottom of Bridal Veil Falls to feel the mist during the Cave of the Winds tour. Sign up for the Maid of the Mist® boat ride, which takes you right down to the base of the falls.
From Rittenhouse, you’re a five minute taxi cab from Independence Hall and the starting point for several city tours. Art lovers? Check out the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Or, stroll the streets around Rittenhouse Square this Fall.
Shenandoah Valley, Virginia
Shenandoah Valley is best experienced in the fabulous Fall months. Check out Dayton Farmers Market Thursday through Sunday in Dayton and Blue Ridge Pottery near Shenandoah National Forrest.
Twin Cities, Minnesota
Fall is absolutely stunning in Minneapolis and St. Paul. Check out Halloween festivities in nearby Anoka. Fall festivals, pick-your-own-orchards, street and book fairs abound.
Take a Fall stroll in Georgetown. Visit the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and its Millenium Stage where shows are free every day of the year. Smithsonian Institution museums and National Zoo are must-see destinations for your Fall escape weekend.
Enjoy the country charm of Franklin County. Check out the Berkshires for a variety of attractions. Check out the college towns you’ll find sprinkled throughout Western Massachusetts.

Fall is a great time to take a driving tour of Frederick County’s longtime, apple heritage. Stop by the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley featuring a five-gallery museum, 6-acre gardens and lovely, historic house. Check out any one of the fabulous Fall festivals in and around Winchester for a great harvest experience.”
