Facebook-A Passing Fad?

There have always been people who resist change. The automobile replacing the horse? Never! The cell phone? A temporarily trendy device. Now, according to an AP-CNBC poll, it appears that 50% of Americans think Facebook is also a passing fad. There is a sharp difference of opinion between younger and older users.
Most of the 56 percent of the country that’s on Facebook is young—two-thirds of Gen X’ers and a staggering 81 percent of people 18-35 use the social networking site. Conversely, it’s the rare senior citizen on Facebook: Just 21 percent have an account.The public overall is similarly divided on the company’s future. Just under half of adults (46 percent) predict a short timeline for Facebook, while 43 percent say it has staying power.

Wall Street is betting on it to have staying power as the Mark Zuckerberg created company is expected to valued at $100 billion dollars when it goes public this week. That is a whole lot of “Likes”.
