Fab Melo Leaving Syracuse For NBA Draft

With Carmelo Anthony it was “one and done”. Now Syracuse center Fab Melo is making it “two and through” by announcing his intention to enter the NBA draft. Yahoo Sports reports that the 7-foot sophomore who averaged over 7 points per game and led the Big East in blocked shots has long harbored dreams of joining the pro ranks.
”Being able to play professional basketball has been my dream since I first starting playing this game and now I have the opportunity to accomplish that dream,” Melo said in a statement. ”Coach (Jim) Boeheim and the rest of the Syracuse staff have helped me develop as a player and as a man, and I will always be appreciative for what they’ve done for me.”
Melo missed a number of games including the NCAA tournament due to academic issues. The Orange were undefeated at the time of his first academic suspension and promptly lost to Notre Dame in their first game without him. Upon his return they ran off a streak of 11 straight wins. He’ll be missed by SU fans but we do wish him the best in his NBA career.
