For 15 years the old Paper Mill in Lyons Falls has sat empty. Dan Laroe of Northeastern Abandoned Exploration tours the site that was founded by Gordias H.P. Gould who opened it in 1895.

Gould built a home across from the mill that is on the National Register of Historic Places.

Harry Gould took over operation of the mill  after his father’s death in 1919.

Despite changing hands numerous times over the years, the Mill was one of the largest employers in the area.

In 1945 Continental Can purchased the mill and produced specialty paper and newsprint.

In 1956 the Lyons Falls Paper Corporation took over and put in a hardwood pulping plant, becoming the first paper maker in the country to use this process.

The mill changed hands twice in the 60s. Lyons Falls Pulp and Paper Company took over in 1985 before closing the mill for good in 2001.

Demolition and clean up on the mill began last year.

Laroe, who was in Utica exploring the old CharlesTown USA Mall stopped in Lyons Falls to look at the old Paper Mill on the Black River. "The spot holds some true industrial beauty sitting atop its own scenic waterfall," he says.

Take a look at Laroe's picture from inside the abandoned mill.
