Voters in the recently merged Central Valley Academy of Ilion and Mohawk have a big decision in front of them on May 19th; one that school officials believe is a 'no brainer.'

The $73.6 (m) million building renovation and improvement project won't raise taxes.

"It will cost us less to build the buildings, than not," said Hughes.

Actually, according to Superintendent Richard Hughes, it will cost school district tax payers more money if they don't do it.

"It will cost us less to build the buildings, than not," said Hughes.

The project is budget neutral, meaning that due to state aid and other factors, the project will not increase taxes.

"Without the structures we would be floundering," he said.  "This capital project realizes that promise, allowing students to follow their passions and we have to have the facilities to provide our students with those academic programs to prepare for jobs that don't even exist yet."

The comments by Hughes are part of a video produced to inform district residents on the progress of the two-year old merger and give them the details of the upcoming vote for the project.

The project will improve and enlarge the elementary schools, make substantial improvements to the Jarvis Middle School, improvements to the high school and add a new turf athletic facility among many other improvements.

The project referendum will be a part of the May 19th school budget vote.
