Curlers from Colgate University, Hamilton College and SUNY Polytechnic Institute will host the 11th annual college bonspiel at the Utica Curling Club February 9 -11, 2018.  The tournament will involve 16 teams from the Northeast including Harvard, Yale, MIT,  University of Pennsylvania, RPI, RIT and Bowdoin College among others.  Teams are made up of any combination of gender.  The schools are vying not only for the bonspiel championship but also to earn points in order to qualify for the U.S. Curling Association College Championship in March.  RPI is the defending champion of the Utica College Bonspiel but SUNY Polytechnic has a veteran team and is one of the favorites in the tournament having made it to the semifinals of the College Championships the last two years.

The local participants in the bonspiel are for SUNY Poly 1, Skip, Blake Hagberg, Jeremy Zhang, Luke Sanders, Dan Coletta.  SUNY  Poly 2, Skip, Aaron Bailey, Rachelle Maccarone, Isabel Romero, Nick Markessinis.
Colgate University 1, Skip, Emily Schweitzer, Stephen Paolini, Kate Miller, Matt Miller.  Colgate University 2,  Skip, Emma Cromwell, Cameron Pauly, Grant Ruback, Grace Macdonald-Gagnon.
Hamilton College's lineup is yet to be determined but their three Skips are Sarah Hossain, Nelly Green and Alex Fergusson.
The competition is open to the public for viewing beginning on Saturday, February 10 at 8:00 am with the finals starting at 11:30 am Sunday.  Selected games will be streamed live on the Utica Curling Club You Tube Channel which can be reached at uticacurlingclub.org
 For those interested in learning how to curl the Utica Curling Club will also be hosting an Olympic Open House on Saturday, February 24 from 10 am - 4 pm for ages 12 and up, cost, $10.  A Curling School will also be conducted on Sundays, March 4,11,18 from 6 pm - 8 pm, cost is $75 and preregistration is required by March 1, 2018 via email membershiputicacurlingclub.org Clean athletic shoes and warm loose fitting or flexible clothing is recommended for both the clinic and curling school.
