It's not unusual for earthquakes to happen in New York. One happened just outside of Buffalo in Newfane.

This quake took place around 3:21AM Wednesday September 6th. According to Earthquake Track, this 1.9 magnitude earthquake was reported 2km (1.25 miles) from Newfane. Is this something to worry about here in New York? The short answer is no from WYRK:

To put the magnitude into perspective against another earthquakes, it doesn’t even register as minor on the the magnitude scale. In fact, there were an estimated 900,000 earthquakes of 2.5 or less last year."

No injuries or damage are being reported at this time.
