An auction house is selling tons of audition tapes made by celebrities before they were famous. Two of the auctioneers showed some of their footage Friday on the 'Today' show.  You may be surprised which stars tried out for roles they didn't get.

-LEONARDO DICAPRIO auditioned for the role of Ponyboy in the short-lived TV version of 'The Outsiders.' The role went to one Jay R. Ferguson, who's better known now for playing Stan Rizzo on 'Mad Men.'

-BRAD PITT, ROBERT DOWNEY JR. and KEANU REEVES auditioned for the firefighting movie 'Backdraft.' They were trying for the role BILLY BALDWIN ended up getting.

-GWYNETH PALTROW and HELEN HUNT auditioned for the part LAURA DERN ended up playing in 'Jurassic Park.'

-RUSSELL CROWE and JENNIFER CONNELLY auditioned for 'A Beautiful Mind.' In this case, they actually ended up with the roles.
