A dog trapped in the ice on Oneida Lake is back on shore thanks to the Ice Water Rescue Team.

The Madison County Sheriff's Department and Sylvan Beach Fire Department rescued the small dog named Madison, whose leash was frozen in ice approximately 1.5 miles off the shore of Oneida Lake in Bridgeport, New York on Sunday, February 7th.

The happy ending was shared on The Sylvan Beach Fire Department Facebook page.

SBFD's Air Boat was deployed and piloted by 2nd Assistant Chief Chris Smith, who was accompanied by 2nd Lieutenant Ryan Clark at approximated 11:30am. While the pup was initially scared and reluctant, Lieutenant Clark approached slowly and was eventually able to comfort her to the point where she essentially leapt into the boat on her own. We are happy to report that her trip back to shore was without incident, and that she suffered no apparent injuries.

This is the second call SBFD has received this winter for a dog trapped on Oneida Lake. The previous rescue was also successful.

A round of applause for everyone involved in rescuing Madison today.
