Does New York State owe you money?

Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli says his office has over $14.5 billion in unclaimed funds and he's urging New Yorkers to see if any of it belongs to them. The majority of unclaimed funds come from old bank accounts, but also include stocks, life insurance and uncashed checks. There are currently more than 35 million unclaimed fund accounts, some dating back to the 1940s.

You can visit the Comptroller's website to see if any of the money is yours.

“We’ve made it easier for New Yorkers to search for and claim money that is rightfully theirs,” said DiNapoli. “Over two million people visit our website every year, and we return $1.5 million a day. But we need people to help spread the word to their family, friends and neighbors. Take a few minutes out of your day and visit our website.”
