It became official today, women will be allowed to serve in combat. Defense Secretary, Leon Panetta repealed a 1994 policy memo earlier today (1/24). Do you agree with the decision? Should women be allowed to serve in combat?
According to NBC News, Panetta replaced the 1994 memo that was signed by Les Aspin, the Defense Secretary during the Clinton administration.
“the responsibility of every citizen to protect the nation, and every citizen who can meet the qualifications of service should have that opportunity.” "If they can meet the qualifications for the job, then they should have the right to serve,"
Those opposed to the decision say it would "weaken unit cohesion" and "lower standards for physical fitness." Others have claimed women are already serving in combat but just not getting recognized for it. What do you think? Vote in our poll below and leave a comment too.
