It is believed that convicted cop killer and captured escapee from the Clinton Correctional facility in Upstate New York spent time right here in Utica, NY. As a young child, he spent a lot of time in foster care and even ended up living for a brief stay at The House of the Good ShepherdThe House of the Good Shepherd is a place where the mission is to provide care that changes the lives of children. In most cases the services The House provides helps kids immensely and they end up going on to live extraordinary lives. In some rare cases children are unable to keep out of trouble and up making very poor choices.

This was the case for David Sweat. According to multiple sources, the man who killed Broome County Deputy Sheriff Kevin Tarsia was once a resident at The House of the Good Shepherd here in Utica. When he was around the age of 9-years-old, Sweat allegedly stole a vehicle and was sent to live at the group home. Who would have ever thought the young Binghamton native would end up being one of two men to be the first to escape from the Clinton Correctional facility since it's opening in the mid-19th century. Sweat's partner in crime, Richard Matt, was killed by law enforcement nearly 3 weeks after their June 6th escape. It's kind of an erie feeling to know that such a bad guy was living here in our town. Let's hope they keep him where he belongs and that's locked up for good!
