It's officially the Christmas season in New York City. Hundreds gathered to see the official lighting of the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree.

Since the Great Depression, the Rockefeller Center Tree has been the epicenter of Christmas in New York City and a symbol of the holidays around the world, with hundreds of thousands of visitors passing by each day while the tree is on display.

You can see the 85 foot tree through Jan. 7, 2015. Visiting hours are 5:30 a.m. to midnight daily.

Darius Rucker, Trisha Yearwood and LeAnn Rimes took part in the official lighting, singing a holiday classics.
