Read that headline carefully. This is not hair replacement we are talking about, it’s an actual cure for baldness and it may be just a couple of years away. The New York Times reported the good news that will have men like Bruce Willis–and probably their wives and girlfriends–cheering.
Dr. George Cotsarelis, a professor and head of dermatology at the Perelman School of Medicine of the University of Pennsylvania, and colleagues have identified a molecule that inhibits hair growth in the follicle. The research team also pinpointed the receptor on the cell where the deed is done, making it a target for possible future therapies for male pattern baldness. Treatments focusing on this specific receptor are already in the pipeline.
