A portion of Route 69 in Oriskany is closed, and residents are being asked to shelter in place as crews look for the source of a gas leak.

UPDATED 2:34 p.m. - Officials say the gas leak issue on Route 69 in Oriskany has been resolved.

Route 69 is re-opened and students at Oriskany Central School will be released at the normal time.

A gas leak was reported in the area of Utica Street and Oklahoma Avenue in the eastern part of the village this morning.

At this time the Oriskany Fire Department is asking residents to avoid the area from the Oriskany Creek to the Bluffs.

Students in the elementary school have been asked to shelter in place until the source can be located to ensure local children do not return home to gas filled residences.

Route 69 is closed in both directions between Route 291 and River Street

Residents in that area are also being asked to shelter in place.

The Oriskany Fire Dept says they will provide updates through NY Alert.
