Country Classic Double Goes To Prison

Each day at 11:30 am, we go back in time with Big Frog 104′s “Country Classic Double”. We try to tie in two songs from the past with a theme, and today’s theme is prison songs.
Two legendary” outlaws” in country music are the late Johnny Cash and Merle Haggard. Merle actually did serve prison time, while Johnny had an overnight jail stay here and there, but no actual extended prison term. Johnny once said that Merle Haggard was the man fans thought Johnny Cash was. So, today we’re featuring two prison songs on the Double:
“Folsom Prison Blues” by “The Man in Black” and “Mama Tried” by Merle Haggard…both number one songs from 1968.*
*The live version of “Folsom Prison Blues” was number one in 1968, while the original studio version was number four in 1956.
