Cost Of Thanksgiving Dinner Up But Not By Much

Gathering the family around the Thanksgiving dinner table is a long and established American tradition. This year that tradition will cost less than last year despite a rise in price for the bird itself. The American Farm Bureau Federation came up with a list of some Thanksgiving staples and their costs, 2012 compared with 2011.
Here is a list of menu items needed to serve up a turkey day dinner for 10
Item 2011 Price 2012 Price Difference
16-pound turkey 21.57 22.23 +.66
Misc. ingredients 3.10 3.18 +.08
Rolls, 12 2.30 2.33 +.03
1-pound relish tray (carrots and celery) .76 .76 No change
Whipping cream, ½ pint 1.96 1.83 -.13
Cubed stuffing, 14 oz. 2.88 2.77 -.11
Sweet potatoes, 3 lbs. 3.26 3.15 -.11
Milk, 1 gallon whole 3.66 3.59 -.07
Fresh cranberries, 12 oz. 2.48 2.45 -.03

Pumpkin pie mix, 30-oz. 3.03 3.02 -.01
Pie shells (2) 2.52 2.51 -01
TOTAL 49.20 49.48 +.28
The rise in cost for Tom Turkey is attributed by the Federation to rising feed and fuel costs. All in all, anytime we see such a marginal difference in cost from one year to the next it is certainly welcome.
