Cooperstown Prepares For Baseball Hall of Fame Induction Weekend

If you have plans to visit the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown next weekend be advised that it is induction weekend and that parking and sidewalk space will be at a premium. Although this years inductees Bert Blyleven, Roberto Alomar and baseball executive Pat Gillick may not spark the same level of interest that many previous honorees have merchants in the village are hopeful that their shops will see an uptick in business.
Susan O’Handley of the Cooperstown Chamber of Commerce is hoping for a big weekend despite the economic downturn that has plagued the tourist trade.
“We’re holding our own here, and when you look at the big picture, the economy, the price of gas, that’s a good thing,” she said. “This is a great place for a family to go on vacation.”
Internet inquiries on the Chamber’s website bode well for a good-sized crowd on induction weekend and a good second half of summer, she said.
