Cooking For Your Pet

My wife thinks it’s crazy but I cook for our cat Fenway. It’s not really “cooking” per se but I do warm up her food in the microwave because a vet once told me–true or not–that a cat’s palate is very sensitive to cold and since I keep the opened can of food in the fridge she’d be happier if I warmed it up. Apparently I am not the only one. A recent Petsmart survey says about 40% of pet owners bake or cook for their pets. I have since come across several cook books for pets. Check out these recipes.

BABY FOOD DOG COOKIES

Recipe At A Glance
Ready in: Under 30 minutes

Serves/Makes:   18

Ingredients:

3 jars baby food, beef or carrots or chicken
1/4 cup Cream of Wheat
1/4 cup dry milk powder, more if needed

Directions:

Combine ingredients in bowl and mix well. Roll into small balls and place on well-greased cookie sheet. Flatten slightly with a fork.

Bake in preheated 350 degrees F oven for 15 minutes until brown. Cool on wire racks and STORE IN REFRIGERATOR. Also freezes well.

CAT COOKIES

Ingredients

7 ounces mashed sardines
1/4 cup dry non-fat milk
1/2 cup wheat germ

Directions

Mix ingredients. Roll into 24 small balls. Placed on greased cookie sheet. Flatten with a fork. Bake at 350 degrees until brown.
