Dylan Larkin scored a pair of first period goals to help the Griffins trip up the Utica Comets 4-2 on Monday night as Grand Rapids evened the Western Conference Finals at a game apiece.

Utica scored two power play goals in the final six minutes to draw to closer but were kept off the scoreboard for most of the night by Griffins goalie Tom McCullum who made 32 saves.

After stopping 25 of 26 shots on goal in Game 1 of the series, Jacob Markstom was pulled from net after two periods having allowing four goals in 16 attempts. Joacim Eriksson stopped both shots he faced in the third.

Brendan Gaunce put Utica on the board with 5:40 to play in the final period and assisted on Sven Baertschi's score three minutes later.

Teemu Pulkkinen scored his league leading 14th goal of the postseason in the second period and had an assist in the first giving him 18 playoff points - also tops in the league. Tyler Bertuzzi scored Grand Rapids' fourth goal with under three minutes to play in the second period, taking advantage of a Comets turnover.

Game 3 is Thursday night in Michigan.
