Coldest Weather of Season Expected This Week

It was c-c-cold overnight–zero when I got up, probably colder elsewhere– but it was just a sneak preview of the week ahead. The National Weather Service (NOAA) is predicting the coldest stretch of the winter season thus far through the weekend. That said, it could be–and has been–a lot worse. Just how cold can it get this time of year?
Here are the record cold temperatures for this week.

January 24, -13 2011
January 25, -15 2004
January 26, -26 1966
January 27, -16 1994
This bodes well for a winter much more typical than the one we had last year meaning an extended winter sports season, good news for snowmobilers, skiers and snowboarders.
