We've discussed Polly ruining Christmas by letting the cat out of the bag about a gag gift we were getting our daughter.  Christmas morning took another wrong turn when the one special gift that we all knew Polly really wanted, went south.

She had dropped more than just hints about wanting the new virtually reality gear that works with your phone.  We made the purchase in secrecy and whenever Polly brought the subject up, we'd dismiss it by saying "I hear it's just not that great" and we should probably give them another year to improve the quality.

It all worked perfect, it was the final gift she opened.  She was excited and immediately went to reading the directions.  After an hour of trying this and trying that to make it work, she "googled" for help.  That was when we found out her phone wasn't compatible.
