If you've already packed up your shovel for the season, you may need to break it back out. The Central New York region could see 3 to 6 inches of snow Saturday night into Sunday morning.

How is this snow even possible? Syracuse.com reminds us that The Great Lakes are warm and nearly ice free. The incoming cold air brought by the dropping polar vortex could generate lake effect snow. Meteorologist Drew Montreuil explains the exact amount of snow we could see, can't be predicted.

"The exact amounts of snow are still a bit uncertain, as late season events typically are," Montreuil said. "Most of those areas should wake up to at least a coating of white on Sunday morning, but as much as 3-6 inches is not out of the question."

Snow showers could last through the day Sunday. By Monday the snow will likely stop as the storm system moves through. Also, next week temperatures will likely remain below normal.
