Could a major storm system could arrive in Upstate New York at the end of next week bringing snow and rain? Eyewitness News Chief Meteorologist Rachael Witter sets the record straight.

The National Weather Service's long-term forecast system is predicting several inches of snow across Upstate New York late next week. What does that mean for us locally? Well, it all depends on the temperature according to Rachael:

The thing with next week is that there MAY be some kind of storm. It's similar to any given "winter" storm we got last year. It will all depend on where the rain/snow line is. If it's too warm, it will start as rain and switch to snow. When that happens will determine how much snow. If it stays as rain longer, less snow. If the switch is earlier, more snow. It's pretty much impossible to put out any totals at this point. Anything out more than 4 days max is a huge gamble. What may happen with this particular storm is it will set up the right environment for some additional lake effect, adding to snow totals. That would be Wed-Thu"

So it all depends on the rain and snow line. We won't know for sure until early of next week.
