Summer Fun

Here is a wonderful day, in my opinion. We are paying tribute to something that many of us take for granted. When the sun comes out and everything is too bright to see clearly, you reach for your trusty sunglasses. The interesting thing about sunglasses is that they are not only functional, they have become a fashion trend. It seems, these days, the bigger the sunglasses the more fashionable. Personally, I wear a John Lennon-style pair of sunglasses. Yes, if there's one thing I love it's round glasses. But, let's not get off topic. The new screen is up, the grounds are being prepared and you can almost smell the popcorn. The West Rome Drive-In, one of the last drive-in movie theaters in upstate New York, will reopen to the public July 6th. According to YNN the Davidson Automotive Group, which owns the property, responded to public demand in renovating and re-opening the drive-in.

Many central New York libraries offer free films to the public, and today the Dunham Public Library, 76 Main Street in Whitesboro is showing: "The Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants"(2005) at 3:30 p.m., and it's free. The film is for family viewing, with a definite "chick flick" tilt and offers something to do during the "Frog Days Of Summer".

The current heat wave may help pack 'em in at tonight's Saranac Thursday at the F.X. Matt Brewery parking lot. The "Frog Days Of Summer" are only two days old, and already we've got July weather. If you've never been, it's a musical gathering with Saranac brews (for those 21 years of age with valid ID) and soft drinks. Tonight it's the bold, brassy sounds of Prime Time providing the musical entertainment.

The New York State Fair's switch from Ticketmaster to Etix did not go as smoothly as officials had hoped. According to YNN a number of ticket seekers hoping to get good seats for the Jason Aldean and Keith Urban grandstand shows voiced their frustration on the Fair's Facebook pagecomplaining of long wait times, losing their place in line and being shut out by ticket agencies  gobbling up many of the best locations. More than a few Big Frog listeners were among the disappointed.
