In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, many of us who were spared from the worst in central New York may wonder what we can do to help those who were devastated by the effects of the storm. The Central New York Chapter of the American Red Cross is now mobilizing to send help.
While many people have expressed mild anger over what seemed to be "over-hype" of Hurricane Sandy's effects in Central New York, this picture may explain why many officials were so alarmed. Ironically, in the midst of Super Storm (formerly Hurricane) Sandy which caused such devastation and flooding throughout major cities in the northeast, many local farmers can now apply for low interest loans in the aftermath of this past summer's drought.
So far, thankfully much of central New York has been spared the wrath of Hurricane (now Super Storm) Sandy. But, watching reports on The Weather Channel and elsewhere, you can't help but hope that our friends, neighbors and relatives in New York City, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Massachusetts, Ohio, Virginia, D.C., Western New York and all other areas that took the brunt of the storm are OK.
The latest report on Hurricane Sandy from the National Hurricane Center says landfall is coming in the next 3 to 5 hours. Currently forecasters have the center of the storm hitting extreme southern New Jersey or Central Delaware.
