We're all familiar with the usual New Year's resolutions: lose weight, get in shape, quit smoking, cut down on drinking, etc... And while all of those are good intentions, there are some unusual resolutions people can make.
Another New Year's Eve tonight without Dick Clark, the creator of "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve" which first aired in 1972. Every New Year's Eve, the TV in the McShea household was tuned to that show, and Dick Clark never let us down. Even after his stroke a few years back, he courageously continued with help from Ryan Seacrest. Tonight, ABC rings in the new year with Ryan Seacrest.
Whether you like your martini "shaken not stirred" as 007, drinks that contain alcohol also contain calories, and in some cases, lots! So before you ring in the New Year, you might want to glance at the calorie count of some popular libations.
Like Scotch, Kathy Griffin is an acquired taste, and once again the comedienne teams up with news anchor Anderson Cooper on CNN for New Year's Eve. Each year, the network holds its breath hoping that Kathy will avoid a few four letter words and on air antics.
Ever since I was a kid, I always remembered seeing those tabloid newspapers at the grocery store cash register line, with the headline, "Psychics Predict New Year Events". I never kept track of how many of those predictions came to pass, so here are a few for 2014.
What's the best Christmas gift you've ever received? For Tadpole, it was his set of golf clubs. My engagement ring inside a coffee pot will be hard to top. We asked our staff to share their best or worst gifts. The results are touching and hilarious.
A man spread some holiday cheer by tossing money to Black Friday shoppers. Serge Vorobyov threw $1,000 in one dollar bills from the fourth floor of Minnesota's Mall of America. The mall choir was singing 'Let it Snow' as the money flew through the air.
One of our favorite holiday TV features is "A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving", a must-see in the Greg McShea household. It seems like the "Peanuts" gang has an animated TV special for just about every holiday, and while this one isn't their best, it's fun to watch. We would sometime miss seeing when it was on TV, so our daughter bought us the DVD of it a few years ago.
Ever since I was a kid, the "Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade" has been a tradition in the McShea household, and it still is. My wife and I usually have it on while peeling potatoes, basting the turkey and mixing up the stuffing. And all the while, the coffee pot is going with a slice of pumpkin bread now and then.
