The Camp Santanoni Historic Area is a unique location in the Adirondack Forest Preserve. It's considered one of the most sophisticated and distinguished of all of the surviving great camps in the Adirondacks.

This National Historic Landmark was created in the late 19th and early 20th centuries by Robert C. and Anna Pruyn, serving as a place to entertain guests and find refuge from city life. Today, the area is a popular day hike destination during summer months, as well as a cross country skiing destination in the colder months. The three Camp Santanoni Winter Weekend events held annually are very popular.

2016 Winter Weekend Schedule

  • Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Weekend, January 16 - 18
  • Presidents Day Holiday Weekend, February 13 - 15
  • March 12 and 13

Camp Santanoni provides a 9.8-mile round trip cross-country ski excursion. The trail traverses from the Gate Lodge Complex (map PDF, 302 KB), past the Farm Complex (map PDF, 179 KB), to the remote lakeside Main Camp Complex (map PDF, 123 KB), providing a moderate ski and a great opportunity to enjoy the outdoors. For those who don't have their own skis or snowshoes, the Adirondack Interpretive Center provide snowshoes free of charge to visitors at the Gate Lodge.

Skiers and snowshoers are welcome to recreate on the trail and surrounding lands on any day during the winter. However, during the Winter Weekend events cross-country skiers and snowshoers will be able to visit both the Gate Lodge and Main Lodge of Camp Santanoni, view displays about the great camp and take interpretive tours with Adirondack Architectural Heritage (AARCH) staff.

Reservations are not required but for more information, contact AARCH at (518) 834-9328.
