We first talked about MeatSuite in November of last year.  The program developed by Cornell Cooperative Extension connecting consumers with local farmers to purchase products.

The program actually started in 2012, but was only available in 9 counties.  A new grant from the New York Farm Viability Institute has brought 16 more counties on board with the program and that includes Oneida County.

For example, you visit the MeatSuite Website input the zip code 13501 and you get local farms that sell beef, pork, chicken and other meats in bulk form.  In this case, the website returns 3 farms within 25 miles of the zip code:

  • All In Good Time Farm 9660 Loughlin Road, Sauquoit
  • Ellisborough 4983 State Route 26, Vernon
  • Windecker Farm 656 Minots Corner Rd, Frankfort

There's details on the farm's practices of raising their meat, payments plans and prices. Because you're buying in bulk, prices are competitive with the grocery store.  Farms that are interested in being a part of the program can get more details at the MeatSuite Website too.
