Brett Favre Worries About Memory Loss

There was talk this week of Brett Favre returning to the NFL this week when the St. Louis Rams supposedly called the future Hall-of-Fame Quarterback and inquired about his availability. Favre quickly shot down the rumors. The reasons may have had more to do with his health than his ability to play.

In an interview this week on SportsTalk 570 in Washington D.C. and reported by the Huffington Post Favre  said that he is worried that he started experiencing selective memory loss.

“I don’t remember my daughter playing soccer, youth soccer, one summer.¬† I don’t remember that. I got a pretty good memory, and I have a tendency like we all do to say, ‘Where are my glasses?’ and they’re on your head. I have that [but] this was pretty shocking to me that I couldn’t remember my daughter playing youth soccer, just one summer, I think. So that’s a little bit scary to me. For the first time in 44 years, that put a little fear in me.”

Favre observed that the NFL didn’t always keep track of concussions as closely as they do now and that 20 years of play may have taken its toll. The NFL recently settled a class action lawsuit filed by players who have experienced post-concussion memory loss for $765 million.
