Beverly Hillbillies Debuted On TV 50 Years Ago Today
September 26, 2012 1:00 PM One of our all-time favorite sitcoms debuted on CBS TV 50 years ago today in 1962, “The Beverly Hillbillies”. Just to refresh your memory, the show was based on the story of hillbilly Jed Clampett (played by Buddy Ebsen) and his family striking oil on his backwoods property, and moving the whole gang to swanky Beverly Hills. The show was hilarious, and lasted nine seasons through 1971.
You can still see it here and there in reruns. Here’s the “Beverly Hillbillies” show open (in color from the later years) and close in black and white featuring the Flatt and Scruggs theme song, “The Ballad Of Jed Clampett”. Y’all come back now, hear?
