Do you want to check out the changing leaves in a new way? Here's a few things you can do to not only see all the colors, but to "experience" the fall foliage.

What do we mean by "experience the fall foliage?"

Well, anyone can drive around in their vehicle to see all the colors of the leaves. And there's nothing wrong with that, but there are other ways to see the fall foliage that will leave a lasting memory. Here are just a few ways to turn that leaf-peeping trip into more of a leaf-peeping adventure:

Adirondack Scenic Railroad

Why not leave the car behind and take a train to see all the beautiful changing leaves? The Adirondack Scenic Railroad has a special "Fall Foliage" trip that takes you from Utica to Old Forge, and gives you a very unique way to see the colorful leaves. If you've been on the Adirondack Scenic Railroad before, you know that there is a special train car that you can stand in, get fresh air (because there's openings on it), and see outside like nothing else. This special "Fall Foliage" trip runs on Thursdays and Saturdays from September 15th - October 23rd. You can get more details and book your trip here.

McCauley Mountain Scenic Chairlift

Now this is stepping up the leaf-peeping to a new level. In Old Forge, you can ride the McCauley Mountain ski-lift to see all the leaves changing for miles - On a clear day, you can even see the peaks of Whiteface Mountain and Mount Marcy. It's only $6 for adults to ride the ski-lift, $5 for kids 6 - 16, and free for kids under 6. If you're a senior or active in the military, it's $5. You can get hours and dates of operation and more information here.

Sea Plane Ride

Going for a sea-plane ride is an amazing experience on its own, but to go up in the air and see all the fall foliage? Well, that's an incredible sight you just have to see! Payne's Air Service is located in Inlet, and will take you for a 15-minute plane ride to see the surrounding area. The service flies on demand, so you don't have to call ahead and make reservations - And they are open 7 days a week from 9am to 6pm. You can get prices, see photos, and get more details on their website here.

Instead of just driving up north or around Central New York to see the fall foliage, why not turn it into an adventure this year and try one of the suggestions listed above. It's sure to make a fall foliage trip that you'll never forget!
