Utica and the Central New York area is known for having some of the best food and unique dishes around. But some out-of-towners just don't seem to get it, and they left some bad reviews. Well, we want to help them out.

Nothing's quite as rough as a bad review - Whether you're a business owner that gets the bad review personally, or if you're a customer and you see a bad review on one of your favorite places - either way, it's a bummer. It's even more unsettling when that review is coming from someone who doesn't live in the area.

Here are just a few of those bad reviews posted on TripAdvisor, and our response back...

opuscat from Ottawa, Canada posted,

We called ahead but the gentlemen told us all his tables were taken for the night but the outside dining was first come first served so we showed up around 8 and found a seat outside. But, we stood in the doorway for awhile waiting to be noticed by someone, anyone to come talk to us before I walked in...

Let us explain, opuscat. The Tailor and The Cook is one of our nicer, busier restaurants in the Utica area. It's known for having to make reservations way, WAY in advance, but that's because they are such a popular place and their food is amazing. As for the waiting around, Utica is a more 'aggressive' area where it's okay to walk up to the staff and let them know, rather than waiting around and hoping they notice you soon. We're busy people, and especially in a restaurant setting, things get ignored that we really don't mean to.

...This so-called king in Utica should send out some staff on a reconnaissance mission back east to see how homemade pizza is done best in today's world. Skip the temptation to try something new...

Well BostonFoodieTruth, upside-down pizza is a favorite in Utica and Central New York. It's just a shake-up to regular pizza, plus your cheese doesn't slide off the sauce (genius, right?!) And O'scugnizzo happens be one of the oldest pizzerias in America. They're still in business, which means they're doing something right.

Let's take a look at one more bad review we would like to address...

Jen78703 from Austin, Texas posted,

I met a friend here for a drink. It's a tiny little place in an area of town that feels a tad sketchy. On the other side of the block it looked like they are renovating and gentrifying but not in the immediate area of Gerbers...

Jen78703, never judge a place by its outside. Gerber's does have a little 'darker' look to it, but once inside you'll notice the big difference. It was once a speakeasy and since then, it has been restored and reopened. The building is great the way it is - It kind of sets the mood and style of what once was.
