Keeler in the Morning

Bill Keeler is the morning host of First News with Keeler in the Morning, which airs weekday mornings from 6 - 9 a.m. on WIBX. The program is also simulcast live on WFXV FOX 33 TV. The Keeler Show is a talk show mixed with news, sports and weather combined with entertainment, music, pop culture and life in Greater Utica, Rome and the Mohawk Valley. If it’s important to Central New York, Keeler will be talking about it. If there’s a question that needs to be asked, Keeler will ask the question and even though he’s well known for giving his opinion, he takes pride in giving both sides the chance to speak their mind. “Some mornings, we’re getting complaints from both sides of an issue and that’s when you know you’ve done your job,” he said. “I take great pride in the interviews we do. If you listen to your guest and you respect them, asking difficult questions isn’t personal, it’s expected and important.” Keeler landed his first radio job in 1981 as a junior in high school. His career has spanned 30-plus years in markets like Providence, Syracuse and Albany; but, WIBX and Utica are home. He grew up in nearby Mohawk and says he’s living and working here today because of family. Bill is married to his former producer, Alison, who sometimes guest-spots on the program. He has three children and both his parents and in-laws live in the area. Through the years, Bill has also worked in newspaper and television. He currently owns a company that produces television commercials and specializes in political campaigns. He’s also hosted several television programs including a food and nightlife TV show called, “Cooks and Cocktails,” which launched in 2017. Bill is a fan of politics, music, song parodies, the New York Mets, Syracuse Orange, Buffalo Bills, the Utica Comets and the Utica Pioneers. He’s very proud of his three Guinness Book records, including one that still stands, the World’s Largest Jelly Doughnut which was made at the old Riverside Mall in Utica back in the 90’s. He’s focused his charity work on children, raising hundreds of thousands of dollars over the years for various causes, most notably his annual Toy Drive which benefits Operation Sunshine. Keeler is a huge fan of the area and believes we’re in the midst of a turning point and a reinvention. “This is a great time to be on the radio in the Mohawk Valley. I can’t wait to see what this area will look like in five years.”
