Keeler in the Morning

Bill Keeler is the host of First News with Keeler in the Morning on WIBX radio. He has worked at radio stations throughout the region including Utica, Albany, Syracuse and a three-year stint in Providence Rhode Island. While he says he loved New England, it was his love for his family and the area that brought him back home to the Mohawk Valley. He began his radio career in Little Falls in 1981 when he was a junior at Mohawk High School. He attended the Radio and Television Broadcasting program at Herkimer College. He proudly explains that he graduated with an Associates Degree on the ’10 year plan’ at Herkimer, because he was working full-time in radio before he started his first college semester. Like so many in radio, Bill began his career as a music deejay for radio stations that played everything from Country music, Top 40, Modern Rock and even Hip Hop. He began his career in talk radio in 1997, when he served as a rather provocative voice on a regional network that broadcast in Syracuse, Utica and Albany. Today, Bill plays a very different role on WIBX. Instead of taking a “shock jock” approach, he does compelling interviews with local and national newsmakers. It is a fast paced news and entertainment show that is very entertaining and reinventing mornings on WIBX.   He’s worked on many projects locally including ownership of television programs, host and producer of the ‘Keeler TV Show’ - which aired in both Utica and Syracuse, he owned and operated a popular online newspaper called Utica Daily News and even spent a few years as the owner and operator of a popular local Comedy Club. Currently in addition to his morning duties at WIBX, Bill produces television commercials and programs, as well as short films and documentaries. His company, Keeler Strategies, currently produces a television program called PLATE NIGHT which airs on local television. PLATE NIGHT spotlights local restaurants and their chefs…putting an emphasis on our food in the area, which he believes is the one true attribute that everybody can agree on. During his career, Bill has broken 3 Guinness Records, one of which still exists. He’s focused his charity work on children, raising hundreds of thousands of dollars over the years for various causes, most notably his annual Toy Drive which benefits Operation Sunshine. Bill has spent the last several years happily married to his wife Alison, a first grade teacher in the New Hartford School District and he’s the proud father of 3 children- Joshua, Benjamin and Grace. He’s a self-proclaimed ‘work a holic’ who says he’d be nothing without the strict direction imposed upon him by his wife, who for a brief time served as his show producer, back in 1997. He’s a huge fan of the Greater Utica area and the Mohawk Valley and he says he’s living proof that ‘even if they move away, THEY ALWAYS COME BACK.’
