It's that time of year. The annual Halloween House in Schuyler is up and running despite a disappearing ghost.

The Truax family puts together the elaborate display that saw ghost damage this year. One went missing and despite efforts to find the disappearing ghost, it vanished into thin air. The family will remember their ghostly friend with a special display they're working on.

The display began as a hobby for Sheldon Truax. "It started as just a normal light display but now there's decorations inside and out, with more props and characters."

Despite what some may think, Sheldon says the display doesn’t cost that much. "We’ve been changing the display over to LED lights which increases the electric bill 15-20 bucks. Plus 80 percent of the stuff is homemade. It’s like any other hobby. Some spend thousands on a snowmobile we spend it on the holiday displays everyone can enjoy."

To hear the display, tune your radio to 104.9 so the music matches the mouths. "It’s time consuming to program and you’d better like the songs because you’re going to listen to them three to four hundred times before you get it right," jokes Truax.

The Truax home is also decked out for Christmas. He’s happy he has great neighbors who don’t complain about all the lights, music and extra kids in the neighborhood, coming to see the display.

Sheldon Truax says his family loves the holidays, but "Halloween is our favorite. We love seeing the familiar faces come back year after year or seeing how excited the kids and their parents get when seeing the house for the first time. Some nights you look out the window and see 4 or 5 cars lined up listening to the show."

The Truax family is flipping the switch a little earlier this year. The display started at 6pm last year, but will begin at 5 this year.
