American Idol Finale Ratings At All Time Low

This weeks “American Idol” finale was the least watched finale in the shows 11 year history. According to FoxNews.com 20.7 million American’s viewed Phillip Phillips win down some 29% from last years finale. There was, however, a silver lining in this dark ratings cloud.
Host Ryan Seacrest announced that a record-breaking 132 million votes were cast between the show’s finalists, former pawn shop worker Phillip Phillips and home-schooled high school student Jessica Sanchez.

Phillips’ win was the 6th consecutive by a male performer with Jordin Sparks being the last female to win in 2006. As for reasons the ratings slipped one may be the saturation of singing competitions on TV.
Audiences have seemed to tire of a glut of singing shows that includes NBC’s “The Voice” and Fox’s own “The X Factor.

In any event there is no doubt that “AI” will return for a 12th season.
