It was Sunday morning October 28th, a little over a month since the terrorist attacks of September 11, and Alan Jackson was having trouble sleeping. He arose from his bed at 4Am and began writing down the words and music that would become an anthem for all of us who lived through that terrible day. By the time his wife and children returned from Sunday church services later that morning Alan had completed his song. It was called "Where Were You (When the World Stopped Turning)" and on this day, December 29, 2001 it became the number one song on the country charts.Alan introduced the song on November 7th during a live "CMA Awards" telecast on CBS. Here is that performance.
