After Ice Jam Flooding Clean Up In Progress In Sylvan Beach

It’s nothing new but it’s always a difficult time for those residents of Sylvan Beach who are affected by the flooding caused by ice jams on Oneida Lake and adjacent waterways. The jam at the intersection of Fish Creek and the Barge Canal broke yesterday but not before the rising waters wrecked havoc with some homeowners.
According to reports from YNN the flooding was a little worse than previous occasions.
Mary Cooper has lived here for more than 25 years and remembers well. But she says there was much more water this time. Cooper said, “It’s higher than it was the last time. The last time it only came up to my fence in the back yard. Now the whole fence and my garbage cans are out there floating.”
My wife is always looking for a camp to buy near the lake and I always remind her it’s a matter of “location, location, location”. Be advised that some areas, though beautiful and convenient to the lake, are prone to the rising waters.
