The Adirondack Ice Bowl pond hockey tournament will not be held this year according to AIB officials.

The tournament pits amateur hockey players from all over the country against each other in four-on-four, no goalie ice hockey in a three day tournament at The Woods Inn in Inlet, NY.

For the last 9 years, the event has been a winter getaway for hockey fans, snowmobilers and those who just love the Adirondack Mountains.

But this year officials have cancelled the event, saying in a Facebook post that they are "in the process of determining what's best for the the future of the event."

The post goes on to say that they hope to share what that will entail soon, but as of the post in September, there hasn't been much news.

Comments on the post speculate that the event ran into insurance issues, while some speculate that money was a factor.

Another comment suggested that the Town of Inlet was more than willing to continue to host the event.

We've reached out to officials at the Adirondack Ice Bowl for more information, but we have yet to hear back.

Here's the post from the Adirondack Ice Bowl's Facebook page:

Hopefully this great event will return to Inlet in 2019, or at least stay near Central New York.
