Just because it's fall, it doesn't mean you need to start hibernating inside already. There's tons to do this time of year, and you can do it right here in Utica.

Sometimes it's so easy to get caught up in everyday life, it feels like we don't have time to get out and experience everything around us - There's not enough time, it costs too much... the reasons go on and on. But you can experience all that fall fun right here in Utica and Central New York - and you can do it on the cheap, too!

Here are just some of the things you can check out, that won't break the bank.

1 - See the Fall Foliage

This one is easy, free, and is a great way to spend the afternoon. Pack up the family in the car and head out on Route 5 S. This drive is close by, but the hills and valleys let you see all the beauty of the changing leaves.

2 - Speaking of Leaves... Collect Them!

Another easy, free (unless you get real creative), and fun fall activity - Head to Proctor Park (or one of the other many, MANY parks in Utica), and start collecting leaves. You can press them between books, let them dry out, and use them for fall decorations, or wrap them and use them for scrap-booking, or bookmarks.

3 - Have a Fall-Flavored Drink

This one isn't free, but it is cheap. You can check out Utica Coffee Roasting Company, and have one of their featured drinks for this time of year. Maybe try the Pumpkin Creme Brulee or their Gingerbread Biscotti flavored coffee.

4 - Head to the Art Museum

This is perfect for those days/nights that it's a little on the chilly or rainy side. Head to the Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute and check out their 'Monet to Matisse' Exhibit. Cost is only $10 per person.

5 - Get a Pumpkin

You can pick up a pumpkin just about anywhere. If you're really in a hurry just head to Wal-Mart. If not, maybe go to Candella's in Marcy. You can make a whole day out of it - picking out the pumpkin, taking it home, carving it up, and making your own very cool jack-o-lanterns!

6 - Head to a Haunted Attraction

It's that time of year for scary fun! There's plenty of haunted houses and corn mazes in Central New York - and a big one right here in Utica. You can check out the Cayo Industrial 'Warehouse of Horror' - It's four attractions in one building, and prices start at $10.

7 - Fall Bonfire

This one you don't even have to leave your house for! Get your family together, maybe some friends, and spend the evening having a little backyard fire. Soon it's going to be too cold for hanging out outside, so this one should probably be first on your list.

Those are just a few of the things you can do in the Utica area to enjoy all that fall has to offer - and on the cheap! Hopefully you can use some of these ideas, or maybe they'll spark some of your own. Enjoy!
