1Killed When Zorb Goes Out of Control in Russia [Video]
One of the hottest trends in winter sports has ended in tragedy. Riding down a ski slope inside a zorb, a giant inflated plastic ball, killed one Russian man and seriously injured another. Check out the video
You may recall seeing the zorb during the Sugarland show at Turning Stone a few years back when they rode them out over the crowd. It has a harness system inside two giant inflated balls for people to ride inside. Unfortunetely there’s little steering ability and as the video shows, the ball rolls out of control and off the safety path down into a gorge. There were plans to feature the zorb in the next Winter Olympics. Russian officials say many saftey precautions were violated by the ski resort that was the scene of the tragedy.
The zorbing experience, growing in popularity in Russia, cost each of them less than 10 dollars. One of Denis’s friends filmed the two getting inside the 3-meter (10-feet) balloon and getting harnessed, but the trip was to end in tragedy.
